Malte Schutz

Malte was born and raised in Germany. After graduating from Medical School in Munich he moved to the US to pursue his postgraduate training. In the first chapter of his medical career Malte worked for over 10 years in Chicago and Berlin as an internist and HIV Specialist providing care to people living with HIV during the AIDS crisis. The following 20+ years Malte spent working on new drug development at Roche and Genentech. He is now mostly retired, spending some time consulting with a focus on optimizing clinical trial design and implementation.

Malte met the artist Kermit Berg in 1988 in Chicago. They have since become married and lived together in Berlin, Jersey City, San Francisco, Shanghai and in 2022 with Malte’s retirement decided to settle fulltime in Palm Springs. Malte has become involved with the Modernism Week neighborhood home tour and in 2025 joined the board of the Historic Tennis Club Neighborhood Organization.

Malte is interested in visual arts and architecture, being in nature hiking, motorcycling and camping, loves cooking and having friends over for casual meals.
